Special Programs and Activities
At the Center for Children, we strive to make you and your child's experience with us as pleasant and comfortable as possible. We know a visit to the hospital can be overwhelming so we offer a variety of special programs and activities to help reduce anxiety for both you and your child. Family Support Series: A series of caregiver support and educational workshops focused on a specific condition, disorder, or patient population. Currently, we offer the following workshops:
- Clubfoot Workshop
- Cerebral Palsy Workshop
- Tea Time (Inpatient Only)
Hand 'N' Paw: An animal-assisted therapy program where a trained therapy dog is used as a tool to help a child achieve a specific goal.
Reach Out and Read: A literacy program aimed at promoting a love for reading within the child and househould at large.
Art Therapy Activities: Coordinated activities using art materials to allow a child to express him or herself creatively and promote healing
Bill the Musician: A musician who visits patients and families to play music and bring smiles
Looney Louie: A medical clown/magician who visits patients and families to provide distraction and bring laughter
Only Make Believe: A non-profit organization that brings interactive theatrical performances to patients and families to encourage imagination
Hero of the Month: A program sponsored by the Kids Wish Network which seeks to recognize children who, while not having medically life threatening illnesses, continue to endure painfully difficult medical circumstances
